We saw numerous leaks of the 8-inch Iconia W3 in April and May, but Engadget reports that the tablet is finally official. Just as Acer’s site listed a few weeks ago, the Acer Iconia W3 is an 8.1-inch tablet running full Windows 8 on an Atom processor. The specs are pretty meaty, all things considered, and the price is surprisingly affordable too.
The Iconia W3 features an 8.1-inch 1280×800 display, along with an Intel Atom Z2760 dual-core processor clocked at 1.8Ghz, 2GB of RAM, and a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot is present for additional storage up to 32GB, and microHDMI and microUSB ports are also along for the ride.
In addition, Acer’s Windows 8 tablet includes two cameras, both rated at 2-megapixels. One is located on the back for quick snaps, with the other on the front of the tablet for video calls. Acer will also sell an optional keyboard that the tablet will dock with, but it doesn’t provide any additional battery life or ports. it isn’t bundled with the tablet either – the keyboard will be a seperate accessory that Acer will sell for €69 (around £59).
The Iconia W3, meanwhile, will be sold in 32GB and 64GB models. The 32GB model will run €329 (around £281), while the 64GB version will be slightly more expensive at €379 (around £323). That’s definitely competitive pricing, and puts the tablet in the same league as the iPad mini. Acer says that the tablet will go on sale this month, but hasn’t provided an exact retail date just yet.
