Acer’s Iconia do-over was spotted on showfloor at the end of last month, and now the Windows 8.1 tablet is official. It isn’t a radical departure from the Iconia W3, but Acer’s latest attempt at a tablet does fix the main issues found on its previous effort.
For one, the 8-inch 1280×800 display has seen an upgrade from a TN panel to IPS. The screen is optically bonded now too, which should cut down on reflections while improving overall image quality.
The internals has seen a bump too. The Iconia W4 is running Intel’s latest Atom chip, a dual-core Bay Trail processor. RAM remains unchanged at 2GB, and the base model still comes with 32GB of storage, but the W3’s 3-megapixel camera has been replaced with a 5-megapixel sensor instead.
Acer says that its Windows 8.1 tablet will start at $330 when it goes on sale in the United States towards the end of the month, but there’s no word just yet on UK pricing or availability. We’ve reached out to Acer UK in the meantime.
