Acer is the latest contender to enter the tablet war. The Iconica Tab A500 is a 10.1-inch tablet, packing Honeycomb, the newest version of Android designed especially for tablets.
Joining the recently announced Iconia Smart, the tablet should be running on Nvidia’s Tegra 2 mobile dual core processor, the Iconica Tab will have Acer’s clear.fi media organiser which promises “seamless integration in the home clear.fi environment to easily access, play and share multimedia across the home network.”
The 10.1-inch screen is multi-touch, meaning you should be able spin, rotate and zoom to your heart’s delight.
Although the Iconica Tab A500 is capable of HD video playback itself, the built-in HDMI port means you’ll also be able to share content through to your HDTV.
Looks-wise, it’s hard to distinguish from other Android tablets; it’s 13.3mm thick, with aluminium casing with laser-engraved textures that “demonstrates subtle sophistication”. Subtle and laser don’t typically go together, do they?
Acer are raving about the tablet’s gaming potential, say that the tablet’s most impressive feature is its “ability to run and play premium HD arcade games and complex online 3D games.”, played through multi-touch and gyro controls. Acer say it’s going to be an experience “on par with the best game console”- we’ll have to wait and see about that,
Other features include a five-megapixel rear-facing camera, and an as-yet unspecified “HD” front-facing camera.
