Acer announces the Liquid S2, a 6-inch handset capable of recording 4K video

Sony and Samsung have both been rumoured to include 4K video recording on their next devices – the Xperia Z1 and Galaxy Note 3, respectively – but Acer has beaten them to the punch. The company has announced the Liquid S2, a large handset with both 1080p and 4K video recording options.

The handset looks to be the first to include 4K video recording, although we’re expecting more Snapdragon 800-equipped devices to include the same functionality in the coming days. Otherwise, the Liquid S2 includes a 6-inch 1080p IPS display, a 13-megapixel camera, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. The battery is rated at 3,300mAh, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac – as well as LTE connectivity – is also onboard. Acer says the Liquid S2 will launch in October, but didn’t reveal pricing details.

In addition, Acer introduced the Iconia A3, a 10.1-inch Android tablet aimed at the affordable end of the market. The display is only 1280×800, and an unnamed quad-core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.2Ghz is powering the whole affair. There will be 16GB and 32GB storage options, at least, and there’s a microSD card slot for further expandability. Just like the Liquid S2, the Iconia A3 will launch in October, with the starting price set at €249 (around £212).
