Acer Liquid Zest hands-on: We went hands on with Acer’s new Liquid Zest at Mobile World Congress 2016, the company’s latest entry-level Android smartphone.
It feels like a timely update on Acer’s long-running affordable Liquid handsets, with an all-plastic body that puts an emphasis on rounded edges and corners for a more comfortable feel in the hand. The polycarbonate back snaps off to get at the SIM tray and microSD slot, but also features a brushed metal-style treatment so that it looks a little more premium.
On the front you’ve got a sizeable 5-inch 720p HD IPS LCD which leverages Acer’s own BlueLightSheild technology, filtering out harmful blue light that can otherwise be disruptive to the user, particularly at the end of a long day.
We still don’t have a complete picture of the Zest, with Acer yet to push out finalised hardware information but it leverages one of two 1.3GHz MediaTek chipsets, likely comes with 1GB of RAM and packs a respectable 32GB of internal storage.
The camera experience is impressively rich considering the phone’s standing, with a wealth of modes at your disposal including some level of manual control when snapping using the rear 8-megapixel camera, whilst the front-facing 5-megapixel sensor is on-hand for selfies with its wide-angle lens.
To sweeten the media experience Acer includes DTS Sound Studio and on the 4G variant DTS HD Premium Sound, which amounts to high resolution audio. The user experience as a whole is founded on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a few Acer apps and cloud services thrown in for good measure.
There’s no specific launch date for the Acer Liquid Zest, but the 3G version will retail for just £90 when it launches, whilst the 4G model will sell for £120.
