Acer unleashes first Windows Phone blower, the M220

Acer is jumping from Android to Windows Phone with its latest smartphone, the M220, freshly launched at MWC 2015 with an impressively affordable price tag.

Although the M220 will launch with Windows Phone 8.1 initially, Acer confirmed that the phone will get an upgrade to Windows 10 when that rolls out to consumers.

The Acer M220 is a dinky 4-inch handset packing budget specs, which should hopefully provide a satisying everyday experience, especially for anyone new to smartphones. The 233 pixels-per-inch screen should be fine for your usual phone shenanigans, such as web browsing and messing around with apps.

As you’d expect, you get full Cortana support and the usual Windows features, including OneDrive cloud support for backing up your files.

The M220 sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing cam with a 89-degree wide-angle lens, plus a 2-megapixel front-facer.

With its €79 price tag (likely to translate into £69 here in the UK), the Acer M220 is set to take on Microsoft’s low-end Lumia phones, including the colourful Lumia 535, when it hits UK stores in April. We’re hoping to grab a hands-on in the next day or so at MWC 2015, so check back for our full thoughts.
