It’s been almost a year Amazon last refreshed its Kindle line of tablets, with the company expected to announce a refresh in the coming months. BGR has scored details of exactly what Amazon has planned, saying that the online retailer intends to bump the specs of the Kindle tablets to make them even more desirable.
According to BGR, Amazon intends to introduce three new Kindle tablets. The first will be a refresh of the popular 7-inch Kindle Fire, with the screen size remaining unchanged. Instead, Amazon will reportedly increase the screen resolution from 1024×600 to 1280×800.
The 7-inch Kindle Fire HD will also see a screen resolution upgrade. BGR says that the new model will feature a 1920×1200 resolution, a big improvement from the current 1280×800 display found on the current model. The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD will see a similar adjustment, going from 1920×1200 to 2560×1600. That would lead to an even higher pixel density than the current iPad.
Finally, the whole range of Kindle tablets will apparently will see a minor design change. BGR claims that the power and volume buttons will be repositioned, with the tablets themselves seeing a more angular design that will be reduce weight across the board.
BGR closes by saying that pricing for the tablets hasn’t been confirmed, but that Amazon is apparently working to release the refreshed tablets at the same pricing as the current Kindle line. The refresh could happen in the coming months – most likely around September, one year after the last Kindle update.
