Nexus fans will no doubt be aware that Google have begun rolling out a new Jelly Bean update for the four most recent Nexus devices. Android 4.2.2 is progressively rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google Nexus 4, Google Nexus 7 and Google Nexus 10. Where applicable, it would seem that the WiFi-only models are at the front of the queue with the GSM variants following suit.
With regards to the update’s content, 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is predominantly designed to work in the background, most notably fixing a Bluetooth streaming issue which arose in Android 4.2.1 but on the Nexus 4 the 50MB update also grants the handset a new Gallery app animation, new low battery and wireless charging sounds and the most visible addition, new quick toggles in the notifications menu.
Previously, two fingers dragged down from the top would reveal the quick settings menu which would allow the user the ability to jump to the respective section of the main Settings app. With 4.2.2, long-pressing on either Bluetooth or WiFi now switches them on or off, without ever having to leave the quick settings menu.
If your Nexus 4 hasn’t yet offered an update to 4.2.2, you can check by going to the Settings application, choosing ‘About phone’ at the bottom of the menu, choosing ‘System updates’ and pressing the ‘Check now’ button. Should nothing appear, like us, you’ll just have to be patient. That is of course unless you want to force the update.
