Android 4.3 Jelly Bean coming to Sony Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra

Early Christmas present alert: Sony has begun rolling out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates to the Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra.

The updates will not only bump the oversized phones/undersized tablets (delete as appropriate) to the next iteration of Android, they’ll bring a bag of extras treats along for the ride.

The Xperia Z Ultra will benefit from the Smart Social Camera app, which lets you stream video filmed on the 8-megapixel camera straight to your Facebook page and make use of a timeshift burst mode.

Both phones will benefit from a string of improvements to Sony’s own services including TrackID and Smart Connect plus Sony’s media apps like Walkman, Album and Movies. Updates to Sony Entertainment Network services like Music Unlimited also promises seamless access to locally stored files and cloud based content.

Availability of this particular feature will vary across the world and its not yet known as and when this will be live in the UK.

It looks like it’ll be a while before the goodness of 4.4 KitKat and its improved voice controls make its way to Sony’s Z series. In the meantime games like Asphalt 8 will look smoother, apps will be easier to manage and we’ll be happy to see things like suggested contacts hitting the Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra over the coming days.
