The latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.3, may be a relatively minor update in the grand scheme of things, but at least Google is staying true to its word and updating the Nexus range of devices first and foremost. The company announced yesterday at its Android and Chrome event that the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and Galaxy Nexus should all now be receiving an over-the-air update to Android 4.3.
You may not seen the OTA update straight away, though. Just like previous versions of Android, Google is staggering the release of the update across its range of devices, probably to avoid a massive rush on its servers. If you don’t see the update for your Nexus device right away, be patient: it should arrive shortly.
So what exactly has Google added to Android 4.3? According to the company, the mobile OS now includes Restricted Profiles. You can set up different Android profiles for various family members using the same device, with parents able to choose what apps their children can and can’t access in the process. Android 4.3 can take advantage of low-energy Bluetooth 4.0 devices too, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches. And developers will be able to take advantage of new graphics technologies thanks to the addition of OpenGL ES 3.0, which should lead to even better looking mobile games in the future.
