Android 5.0, Jelly Bean, to arrive later this year?

We’re willing to bet you don’t even have Ice Cream Sandwich on your phone yet, but already we’re hearing about the next version of Android, Jelly Bean.

The name has been floating around for a while, and yesterday it was all but confirmed to be the name for the next version of Android when Google left a bowl of jelly beans for The Verge to admire.

Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice president of mobile engineering at Google, also talked to Computerworld yesterday. He was quoted as saying:

“After Android 4 comes 5, and we haven’t announced the timing yet, which we’re still sorting out… In general, the Android release cadence is one major release a year with some maintenance releases that are substantial still.”

So no direct confirmation of any release timeline, but it you connect the dots of various Android version launches, you can expect to see Jelly Bean later on this year. Details other than that are sparse at this moment in time.
