Android smartphones to get BBC Micro emulator app

The developers at Little Fluffy Toys are currently crafting an Android app that’ll allow a certain generation of geeks to re-live their first programming footsteps.

The screengrab on the right is the real thing; they’re using the Google Nexus S on Android Gingerbread (2.3) to test the still very young app- there’s no target release date set just yet.

Awkward educational games from our school days replicated on our phone? Yes please. The developers themselves are aiming toward Elite on Honeycomb tabs.

It could take a bit of time, but the BBC Micro is an open source offering, meaning app developers could port the ground-breaking programming system all very legally.

Several games consoles have console emulator offerings available on Android smartphones, although Google continues to delete and block illegal emulator apps and their developers.

Wonder what we’d have to do to get an official SNES emulator on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play…
