Apple fixes bug causing iOS app crashes

iOS CrashApple has fixed the problem leading to iPhone users reported major app crashes following a new update.

In a statement to AllThingsD Apple said: “We had a temporary issue that began yesterday with a server that generated DRM code for some apps being downloaded… The issue has been rectified and we don’t expect it to occur again.”

Originally pointed out by Instapaper’s Marc Arment, a glitch lurking within Apple’s App Store rendered multiple applications useless, including many notable titles. On his blog, Arment wrote, “Last night, within minutes of Apple approving the Instapaper 4.2.3 update, I was deluged by support email and Twitter messages from customers saying that it crashed immediately on launch, even with a clean install.

The glitch apparently resided in some corrupt binaries tied to the update process for each app. Users stated that following the update of an individual application, launching resulted in an immediate app crash, which was unavoidable even if the user deleted and reinstalled the app.

The list of affected apps collated by Forbes is below.
