Bitcoin apps spring up on iTunes after Apple’s reversed policy

Apple has reversed its policy on Bitcoin, allowing apps on iTunes for exchanging the virtual currency between iOS devices, and already we’re seeing apps supporting Bitcoin appearing on iPhone.

In a surprise twist, Apple is now allowing Bitcoin apps back on the App Store, after previously removing apps such as Blockchain which allowed users to exchange the virtual cash. Coin Pocket, an app which allows iOS users to send and receive the Bitcoin currency, is one of the first to appear on iTunes, with many more Bitcoin apps expected to hit in the coming days.

A handful of Bitcoin apps are already available, including eGifter, which lets you buy gift cards for US stores with the virtual money. Apple has stated in its updated policies that ‘apps may facilitate transmission of approved virtual currencies provided that they do so in compliance with all state and federal laws’.

Bitcoin fans are unsurprisingly chipper over the news, and with Bitcoin apps seeping out onto the App Store, it really does look like Apple’s changed its tune. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
