Apple confirms Siri not coming to iPhone 4

In what is surely to be a blow to Apple iPhone 4 users, the company has apparently confirmed Siri will not be coming to older Apple devices.

Apple blogger Michael Steeber reports on his website  corrsepondence between an Apple user who contacted the software giant with a bug report, along with the suggestion that iPhone 4 users pay $19.99 to access a special software upgrade enabling Siri.

Apple replied: ‘Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue: Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices.’

This contradicts an earlier rumour that Apple was testing Siri on the iPhone 4 and of course footage showing Siri running on a jailbroken iPod and iPod Touch.

We can believe that Apple doesn’t want to make Siri available for the iPhone 4, Siri after all is one of the few differentiating features between the two handsets. However, it seems a shame that a device like the iPad 2, which only launched this year, doesn’t include Siri.

Although Apple is notoriously secretive and perhaps when the iPhone 4S has been on sale a bit longer we’ll see a firmware upgrade offering Siri on older Apple devices.
