Apple bundles EE WiFi Calling for iPhone 5C, 5S, 6 and 6 Plus in iOS 8.3 update

EE WiFi Calling is now available for iPhone 5C, 5S, 6 and 6 Plus owners, following an official thumbs up from Apple.

An EE spokesperson said: “Starting today, iPhone customers on EE can make and receive high quality calls over WiFi and send text messages, using their own phone number with no need to use an app – great for when a mobile signal is unavailable.”

EE WiFi Calling: Everything you need to knowEE WiFi Calling is built directly into the dialler of your phone, so you just use your phone as your normally would. It’s not a discrete app like TalkTalk’s Talk2Go or Virgin Media SmartCall

During the official launch event, we got to test out EE WiFi Calling in an underground environment where there was absolutely no signal at all. A couple of teething problems aside, it worked like a charm. Get ready for the relative solutide of your commute to be invaded by folks gassing on their phones.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which go on sale tomorrow, will launch with the service built in. The Microsoft Lumia 640 will also ship with WiFi Calling built in for EE customers.

Now that it’s got a beachhead in all three major mobile ecosystems, EE will eventually roll this service out to more devices over the coming months, but it hasn’t mentioned which phones are next in line yet.

To get EE WiFi Calling on your iPhone, follow these steps:
