Apple introduces iOS 5.0.1 update with battery fix

Apple has released the first update to the latest version of its software iOS 5.

The most significant improvement to iOS 5.0.1 is an improvement to battery life. Since launch the iPhone 4S has been plagued by reports of battery issues. With rumours it could be caused by a location-service bug, or heavy synching with iCloud draining the battery.

Elsewhere it adds multitasking gestures to the iPad, resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud and improves voice recognition for Australia users using dictation.

The update is available to the iPhone 4S, 4 and 3G, iPad and iPad 2 and the 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch. Access via General – Software Update, of course with iOS 5 you can download it over the air.

We’ve downloaded it this morning to our iPhone 4S. It took us around four minutes when plugged in and another two-three for the phone to update.

We’ll let you know if there are any improvements to battery performance over the next few days.
