Apple iPad 4 128GB launching in February

Apple is releasing an 128GB version of the iPad with Retina Display – or iPad 4. Set to launch at the start of February, this doubles the capacity of the current iPad and means it joins the 16GB, 32GB, 64GB versions of Apple’s table.

Philip Schiller from Apple comments. “With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”

The 128GB iPad will launch on Tuesday 5th February and will be available in black or white. The iPad will cost £659 for the WiFi version and £739 for the WiFi+4G version.

What are the iPad 4’s main features?

The iPad 4 replaces the new iPad – and it’s officially called the ‘iPad with Retina display.’ It retains the 9.7-inch screen with a Retina display, but there are three core differences since its : LTE – or 4G (for ultra-fast connectivity), the new Lightening port and the A6X processor.

The A6X chip, Apple claims offers twice the processor and graphics performance as the A5X chip on the new iPad. In short games like N.O.V.A. 3 which compromised graphic performance to run smoothly on the new iPad (iPad third generation), should now ably handle high-res graphics and fast motion.

While it’s great news that there’s a new iPad, if you’ve just invested in the new iPad, it’s disappointing. Although we need to be clear, that in day to day use there won’t be a great deal of difference between the two iPads – but gaming will be superior.

When it comes to 4G support the iPad 4 is only compatible with the 1800MHz band – due to be launched by EE  within the next week. In short if you buy the iPad 4 it will only work on EE (and later Three’s network), so if O2 or Vodafone launch more competitive 4G tariffs, the iPad 4 won’t be compatible.
