Apple iPhone 5 coming October 4th?

Wallets at the ready, Apple fans, as we’re getting word that the much-rumoured iPhone 5 may be launching in as little as two weeks.

According to an exclusive scoop by tech blog All Things Digital, “sources close to the situation” say that the new iPhone (or new iPhones, as it may turn out to be) will be revealed at a special Apple event on October 4th, a full week and a half earlier than we’d heard from Orange’s CEO Stephane Richard.

Tim Cook, Apple’s new CEO, is expected to make the announcement now that Steve Jobs has stepped down from the position. The iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S) has been the focus of a boatload of rumour and speculation since it conspicuously failed to show up the traditional launch venue for new Apple phones, June’s World Wide Developer Conference. Has Apple left it too late to drum up the same excitement as the iPhone 4? Of course not. But it’s good to end news pieces with a provocative question.
