Apple releasing iPad 3 in March, iPad 4 in October to combat Android and Windows 8 tabs?

More rumour meat concerning Apple’s future iPads. Sources talking to DigiTimes are saying that the iPad 3 will be busting out on shelves in March with the iPad 4 coming out half a year later in October.

The launch of the iPad 3 in March will also see the iPad 2 taking a price tumble, “fend off competition from non-iPad vendors including Sony, Motorola Mobility and Samsung Electronics.” Not to mention the discounted BlackBerry PlayBook, the Amazon Kindle Fire and the possibility of a Nexus Tablet…

Source said the cost of the iPad 2 will be slashed to $399 (around £250), as happened with the original iPad prior to launch of the iPad 2 last year.

The iPad 3 while boasting a highly detailed screen (reportedly 2048 x 1536 QXGA resolution) “may not be so amazing as expected,” according to unnamed sources.

The iPad 4 is thought to be real high-end deal, arriving later in October round about the time the first Windows 8 tablets are due to arrive. The Windows 8 OS, reportedly to come with Xbox Kinect-esque motion detection, marks Microsoft’s entry into the tablet market. We’re expecting great things from Windows 8 tabs, so cause for concern from Apple is understandable.

Both tablets are thought to feature quad-core A6 processors. The iPad 3 reportedly will feature a 5-megapixel sensor while the iPad 4 will boast a more powerful 8-megapixel camera. Previous rumours had pointed to April for the launch of the iPad 3, which would make sense vis-a-vis an October release for the iPad 4 – six months apart.

It’s all speculation pending any official word from Apple though; more on this as and when we hear it…
