Archos Diamond 2 Note hands on | MWC 2016

Archos’s Diamond 2 Note might just be THE bargain buy of 2016; boasting Android 6.0 and a 6-inch Quad HD screen, this monster phone will set you back just £249.

The good high spec to money ratio of the Archos Diamond Note 2  doesn’t end there either; for your pennies you’ll also get a phone with a Helio X10 processor – the same CPU that powers Sony’s Xperia M5 – 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel main camera that can recording 4K Ultra HD video at 30fps and a big 3,610mAh cell.

How much use you’ll get out of that fat battery remains to be seen; we expect that almost edge-to-edge 6-inch LCD with a 2,560×1,440 resolution is going to be a thirsty customer. Right now, we’ve only been able to play with the Diamond Note 2 while it’s tethered to a hot power lead at Mobile World Congress, so we can only guess at how the battery performs in real life.

The official spec sheet reveals that its CAT 4 radio means that it’ll only be able to handle 4G speeds up to 150Mbps so it’s not going to be the fastest phone out there for web browsing and while you get a generous 32GB of storage, it’s not currently clear how much of that will be free to use; thankfully, there’s a microSD slot that’ll handle cards up to 128GB in size.

Still, for £249 we can’t expect everything. Or can we? Check out our hands-on video below and stay tuned for a full review coming soon.
