Ice Cream Sandwich has made its way onto Asus entire tablet line with the Asus Eee Pad Slider getting it last week. A little late in the game when compared to when it landed on the Asus Transformer Prime and the original Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF-101, it’s here now and it sure is sweet with smooth functionality and a great balance of stock Android and Asus’s light tweaks. We’ve put together a quick outline below to give you an idea as to just what this update brings with it as well as a hands on video.
For starters, looking at the specs of the Asus Eee Pad Slider, you’ll find an Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz dual-core CPU with a 10.1-inch 1280×800 IPS panel and 16GB of memory. Expandability includes a full sized USB port, MicroSD card reader, and one year unlimited ASUS WebStorage. Not quite as well connected as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer or Prime, there isn’t an SD card slot, but having said that, the Asus Eee Pad Slider comes with one part not two, making for a more cohesive experience with no detaching in sight.
Ice Cream Sandwich brings with it a host of refinements to Asus’s Honeycomb, though the fundamental layout of five home screens remains the same. Widgets are now added through the same menu as apps and swiping to remove functionality has been integrated into the notifications tab and multi-tasking menu as with stock Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Asus Eee Pad Slider retails for approximately £350, the same price as the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300. With lower specs across the board, it might seem like a no-brainer as to which device one might go for, however we can see the appeal of the single component form factor for anyone not too focused on having the latest and greatest in terms of power under the hood.
