ASUS Eee Pad Transformer 2 coming soon with Ice Cream Sandwich, says Asus CEO

ASUS’ second Eee Pad Transformer, the tablet which morphs into a laptop thanks to its bundled keyboard dock, will be with us before the end of the year running Android Ice Cream Sandwich, according to ASUS CEO Jerry Shen.

Shen also said that the Eee Pad Transformer 2 will be competitive with Amazon’s new Kindle Fire tablet, although at more than twice the price of Amazon’s new tablet consider our eyebrows firmly arched.

Specifics on the Eee Pad Transformer 2 haven’t been revealed yet, but the rumour mill has churned out a couple of juicy tidbits recently, first of an October launch and second of a new quad-core processor – the first on the tablet market. We’ve also heard talk that, unlike Samsung and its ever-decreasing screen sizes, that Eee Pad Transformer 2 will retain its 10-inch touchscreen.

The Transformer’s keyboard dock is its real unique selling point among the other tablet competitors, but at a full $300 more than the Kindle Fire, we’d like to know why prospective Fire owners shouldn’t just buy an Amazon tablet and a separate keyboard if text entry is high on their wants list. Should ASUS be worried? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
