Asus Eee Pad Transformer 700: Hands-on photos

Remember that higher-resolution, improved GPS Eee Pad Transformer we told you about? This be it.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer 700 Series has yet to be confirmed for the UK or elsewhere in Europe but we took a closer look all the same. It’s beautiful. The Transformer 700 is every bit as easy on the eye as the Transformer Prime, boasting a slender, lightweight chassis.

The Transformer 700 pips the Transformer Prime slightly with a more detailed screen – 1920 x 1200 up from 1280 x 800. This might not seem like much on paper, but it counts on big displays like the 10.1-inch ones of the Transformer range. Take a look at the resolution comparison picture we snapped of the two Android Market icons for a better idea.

Otherwise, the specs of the Transformer 700 and the Transformer Prime are the same. Nvidia’s Tegra 3/Kal-El chip is the multi-tasking super-brain, 1GB of RAM is the muscle and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the skin and hair.

Asus has added some of its own cosmetics to the Android 4.0 experience but this is more of a light touch of make-up as opposed to the full-body GTL workouts of HTC’s Sense and Samsung’s TouchWiz.

Speaking of Jersey Shore, we’ve not yet run in to Snooki here at CES. We’ve seen Will Smith and Kelly Clarkson but we’ve not been able to pap the Snook just yet…

More seriously, we are finding out whether or not the Transformer 700 will be headed to the UK. Pricing in the States is said to be $599 (£390) for the 32GB and $699 (£455) for the 64GB edition. We will of course let you know as soon as we hear one way of the other.

Until then, have a look at the pics and let us know your thoughts. Annoyed that you’ve already ordered a Transformer Prime and want the higher-res version? Or does it not bother you? Thoughts, as always, in the comments.
