Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime UK delay blues: When is yours arriving?

Update: Those waiting patiently for their Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime look to be in for a wait. While some of those who pre-ordered the Prime have got hold of their order and have installed the Ice Cream Sandwich update, others posting on Asus’ UK Facebook page appear to be less lucky.

It appears there isn’t enough stock to fulfil pre-orders, despite the word on the street being that today, the 12th of January, is when we’d be seeing them:

From comments on the Asus UK Facebook page, it seems some who pre-ordered in December being told to expect delays from Amazon, as the retailer struggles to meet demand. Amazon UK sells directly from Asus.

It certainly seems that there just isn’t enough stock to meet demand. Looking online now (although we wouldn’t expect to be able to get hold of  a Prime today without a pre-order)  Amazon UK doesn’t appear to have an official listing for the Prime any more; you only seem to be able to order from two independent sellers.

Carphone Warehouse’s site is currently saying ‘Out of stock – Back order’. PC World and Currys however appear to have Prime’s in stock, promising an 8 to 10 delivery date for orders placed today.

But what about those who’ve pre-ordered the Transformer Prime? Asus line on this, posted in a reply on Facebook earlier today says:

“We are working hard to secure more stock. Pre-orders have been huge. Retailers will start shipping to clear back-orders first. We will keep you updated when more stock arrives.”

We’ve asked Asus, along with Amazon, Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Stores Group for more information on when new stock will be arriving and who gets it first and we’re waiting to hear back.

Update: A spokesperson for Dixons, PC World and Currys got back to us to say that pre-order obligations for the grey edition of the Transformer Prime have been fulfilled and that more stock is due in soon – no ETA was available.

Update 2: We’ve heard some interesting news. Word is retailers were sceptical the Transformer Prime would sell at £499 and so chose to capped initial orders despite Asus being confident they would sell.

Update 3: We’ve heard back from Asus who’s told us that it’s “cleaned out stock” for the UK and that it’s “pulling out the stops to get more in” as soon as possible. It’s not possible to provide an official ETA as of yet. Asus has said it’ll let us know of one ASAP.
