Asus has just announced the PadFone Infinity, it’s the third device in the range – although the PadFone 2 has just hit the shelves in the UK.
If you are not familiar with the concept of the PadFone, it’s an Android smartphone, but dock it into the Asus PadFone Infinity station and it becomes a tablet and providing access to all settings and data as usual.
We had some hands-on time with the PadFone Infinity and we are impressed. The 5-inch screen is vibrant, with good colour reproduction and great blacks, it has a pixel per inch rating of 441 which is higher than the iPhone’s Retina display and ensures text looks razer sharp.
The PadFone Infinity is stunning, it utilises a unibody design and is made from aerospace-grade aluminium, but feels surprisingly light. On the back of the device there’s a 13-megapixel camera with a wide f/2 aperture which, with dedicated image signal-processor to improve the quality of low-light photos
3G is onboard, but the Asus PadFone Infinity also support 4G, with download speeds of 100Mbs. There’s 64GB internal memory, which can be expanded using a microSD card.
Asus has not yet confirmed the UK launch date, but if you like the look of the PadFone Infinity it doesn’t come cheap – it’s around £799 for the phone and Infinity combo, which seems very expensive especially next to the new Asus FonePad at £179.
