Asus Transformer Pad 300 (TF300T): Hands-on pictures

We happened across the tablet portion for an Asus Transformer Pad 300 (TF300T) at an event hosted by Nvidia to promote mobile gaming and, specifically, all things Tegra 3.

The Asus Transformer Pad 300 definitely falls into this category, or at least the Wi-Fi only version does. This is the version we saw, in white and sadly devoid of its keyboard dock. That didn’t stop us picking it up and having a play around with it.

It’s very light, which isn’t surprising, given that the Asus Transformer Prime is encased in dense, spun metal. The concentric ripple effect, first seen on Asus’ Zenbook series, returns here but this time in moulded plastic.

Up the top there’s an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 lens. Taking pictures with this lighter tab ought to be a bit less unwieldy than its metallic Prime cousin. The panel isn’t any noticeably lower in resolution at a glance, which is good to know. The Asus Transformer Pad 300 is said to be part of Asus’ ‘Affordable and Stylish’ range. As well as white, there’s going to be blue and red versions too.

It’s looking like in order to keep costs down, Asus is eschewing the posh metal cases in favour of less pricey plastic. We hope that’s the only thing that’s been sacrificed on the altar of affordability.

Expected to arrive sometime in Q2 2012, we’ll know more of Asus’ price plans for the Transformer Pad 300 series in due course.
