Best Phone of 2015: Winner and Nominees

Recombu Awards Best Phone 2015: We celebrate the best mobile phone of the year, from a shortlist including the Apple iPhone 6s, Samsung Galaxy S6, Sony Xperia Z5, LG G4 and Google’s Nexus 6P.

This is the big one, kiddies. Best Phone of 2015. We had a bloody hard time whittling our mammoth list of nominees down to a shortlist, with shiny, sexy handsets like the HTC One M9 and the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact sadly missing out on a place in the final five. But here are the five phones that really rang our bells this year, starting with the winner and special runner-up award.

Best Phone 2015 Winner: Samsung Galaxy S6

Sammy’s impressively designed Galaxy S6 (its best flagship phone in years) is as close to perfect as you can get right now, thanks to the gorgeous screen, unbeatable performance, versatile camera and excellent built-in sensors. Our only complaint is a lack of expandable storage, something hopefully rectified in the Galaxy S7

Best Phone 2015 Special Mention (Runner Up): Sony Xperia Z5

A special shout-out to Sony’s Xperia Z5, a highly desirable bit of tech that rivals the S6 with a super-fast 23-megapixel camera and battery life that’ll see you well into a second day, not to mention that accurate new fingerprint sensor. Z5, you win our Highly Commended award.

Best Phone of 2015: The full shortlist

Here are the other three smartphones that were nominated for the best phone of 2015 award.

Apple iPhone 6S

Apple’s brilliant iPhone 6s packs plenty of fresh new features including a pressure-sensitive 3D Touch screen and a pair of easy-to-use, highly dependable cameras.

Google’s Nexus 6P

The super-sized Nexus 6P (crafted by Huawei) is one of the first to run Android Marshmallow, which boasts better battery life and improved privacy settings. Combined with a stunning display, solid performance and a gorgeous metal body, this is a brilliant all-rounder.

LG G4

If you love a bit of leather, nudge nudge, then look no further. LG won our best phone award in 2014 with the impressive G3 and this year’s LG G4 continues the great work with a new design and more brilliant optics.
