BlackBerry App World 3.0 announced: Share app links, improved search

Along with three new BlackBerry phones due to hit shelves over the coming weeks, RIM has just announced that BlackBerry App World 3.0 will be hitting phones running BlackBerry OS 5 and above over the coming days.

The latest version of the App World will feature a new sharing function (allowing you to tell other BlackBerry owners about this great new app you’ve got) better categorisation (apps, games and themes are now sorted into channels) and sexy new design.

The new search tool allows you filter searches by name, price, popularity, best match and it’s now easier to access and manage BBID payment options. Currently, the App World allows you to pay either via PayPal or your credit card. Carrier/network billing is also supported where available.

You’ll also be notified of when app updates are available via push notifications, read reviews of apps and browse app screenshots before handing the coin over.

Sounds like the App World has been given a proper scrub up; many of these features are common to those who regularly buy apps from the iTunes App Store and Android Market. Anyone tempted to make the leap over from either of these platforms should therefore find getting used to the BlackBerry way of doing things a bit easier.

You can download the App World here if it’s not already installed on your BlackBerry phone.
