BlackBerry App World getting a v2.0 makeover

Having launched early last year, BlackBerry App World is due a revamp to help it match up to its app store rivals. Research In Motion is on the case, and has been showing off version 2.0 of its store app in the US.

The biggest change – and a hugely welcome one to anyone who hasn’t got a PayPal account – is the inclusion of carrier billing. If your operator supports it, you’ll be able to buy apps on the BlackBerry App World and have the price charged to your phone bill.

Another new feature is BlackBerry ID, which will give you a unique ID that you can use across different BlackBerry handsets. The biggest advantage is that when you upgrade to a new device, you’ll be able to transfer over all your old paid apps – something that’s been possible on iPhone since the early days of the App Store.

The new version of App World will also separate Themes from Apps, allowing you to browse charts of the latest and greatest themes for your BlackBerry. There’s no news yet on when the new version of the store will be available, but it’ll be a must-download for BlackBerry addicts when it does touch down later this year.
