BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 are good to go for MasterCard’s PayPass

Our American friends may be having all the fun right now with the NFC enabled Nexus S 4G and Google Wallet, but BlackBerry owners will be able to get in on the action in the future now that two of the handsets are Mastercard PayPass certified.

Both the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 have passed the gauntlet that leads to official certification, which includes stringent functionality and security requirements. Now that they’re on board the MasterCard train, any bank that’s able to issue a PayPass enabled account will be able to include RIM’s phones.

NFC payments here in the UK are still in the infancy stage. Orange and Barclaycard rolled out a small offering back in May, but the only handset you could use was the Samsung Tocco, not to mention the £15 limit.

Given some time we’re sure we’ll see more and more NFC enabled smartphones making their way to our shores, now we just need retailers and payment processors to stop slacking.
