Poor old BlackBerry doesn’t get much of a look-in on the creative accessories front; those pesky Android and iPhone kids seem to get the best of the action.
Lucky for BlackBerry aficionados, FOC Talents, a network of designers which receive a specific brief to create designs around every quarter, was assigned the task of creating imaginative case designs for the BlackBerry Bold 9700; and the results range from the sublime to the ridiculous.
If you’ve ever hankered after an ‘80s style mobile brick but with the functionality of a smartphone, for example, then you’re in luck. This retro case comes complete with retractable antenna, you can totally pretend you’re Michael Douglas in Wall Street with this case. “Soo ugly that you’ll want one,” apparently. What an accolade.
For something a touch more elegant, there’s the intricate ‘I heart downtown’ case (below, left) with skyscrapers, people, grafitti and pigeons carved out in 3D (3D! It must be cool!). The scribbly pink case (below, right) would be perfect for Mr Messy if he were to buy a BlackBerry and not be fictional. Sadly, the final case (below, middle) lacks the in-your-face craziness of the others, but the geometric design would add a touch of understated glamour to your otherwise run-of-the-mill handset.
These four designs have been chosen to be ‘further developed for commercialization’ so perhaps we’ll see them hit the shelves one day soon.
