RIM’s CEO Mike Lazaridis has appeared in a video publicly apologising for the spate of BlackBerry service outages that have been plaguing RIM customers in Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East this past week.
“Since launching BlackBerry in 1999, it’s been my goal to provide reliable, real-time communications from around the world.” says Lazaridis. “We did not deliver on that goal this week, not even close. I apologise.”
The service outages robbed BlackBerry users of many online features, including e-mails and BlackBerry Messenger.
In the video, Lazaridis promises that RIM’s people are working around the clock to fix the problem, but that at present the company can’t make any real predictions about when BlackBerry services will be fully up and running, but did say that he believed services in affected regions were returning to normal.
