Blackberry just launched its new DTEK50 mobile phone, its first handset for 2016 and its second ever Android phone after last year’s excellent Blackberry Priv. We’ve already unboxed and played with the 5.2-inch Blackberry DTEK50, and so far it seems to hold up well against other Androids around the £275 price point.

Blackberry DTEK50 vs OnePlus 3 vs Moto G4 Plus: Design
The DTEK50 has one advantage over the OnePlus and G4 Plus when it comes to design, in that it’s more compact. The 5.2-inch build is comfortable to clutch and pleasingly skinny compared with the hulking 5.5-inch rivals here, with the Moto G4 Plus proving particularly bulky.
The OnePlus 3 wins our choice of best looking phone, thanks to that sleek metallic body. Still, all three handsets here feel rugged enough to shrug off a few bumps and scrapes, although none of them are water resistant.

All three phones in this round-up sport a Full HD display, which makes for sharp, eye-catching images. The OnePlus 3 and Moto G4 Plus screens are bigger than the DTEK50’s, but the difference is negligible when watching movies or messing around in apps.
The OnePlus 3’s AMOLED screen produces rich hues and really makes photos stand out, while the Moto G4 Plus and Blackberry DTEK50 panels pump out more subdued, realistic colours.
If you want to carry a massive media collection around, be warned that the OnePlus 3 doesn’t support microSD memory cards. The 64GB of storage space is still plenty for a few movies and loads of albums, but it’s more restrictive than the Moto G4 Plus and DTEK50, which have memory card slots to expand.

The Blackberry DTEK50’s main focus is security and privacy. Encryption is a default feature, whereas you need to activate it on the other two phones here, while the DTEK security suite helps you to set up your phone in a secure manner and alerts you to any potential issues. However, despite the emphasis on keeping out thieves, the DTEK50 is the only phone here without a fingerprint sensor.

OnePlus 3 and the Moto G4 Plus on the other hand offer quite a vanilla, streamlined version of Android, although the OnePlus 3 does offer some neat customisation tools.
Blackberry DTEK50 vs OnePlus 3 vs Moto G4 Plus: Performance
No real contest here. The OnePlus 3 is the most powerful phone by far, packing a Snapdragon 820 processor backed by a whopping 6GB of RAM. However, all three phones can run the latest apps and play fast-paced games without issue, and hopefully shouldn’t show any signs of slow-down in the near future.

The DTEK50 and Moto G4 Plus are our joint pick for the best smartphone snappers here. The G4 Plus is technically ‘better’ on paper, sporting a 16-megapixel camera compared with the DTEK50’s 13-megapixel shooter, but both camera produce sharp, eye-catching photos with a fast shutter speed for those action shots (helped by the built-in phase detection autofocus).
