BlackBerry PlayBook: 16 June release date, now on pre-order at Carphone Warehouse

You can now preorder RIM’s first tablet, the PlayBook, from the Carphone Warehouse and their superstore-based cousin, Best Buy.

Three different models are there for pre-order, but the BlackBerry is one of the first tablets to arrive with no 3G option.

Instead, there’s three different models with differing capacity; the entry-level 16GB model (which we’re currently testing) set to cost £399. Double the size, and a 32GB tablet will be £479, whilst the 64GB PlayBook will arrive at £559.

Carphone Warehouse expect the PlayBook to be available on 16 June 2011, and according to the press release, they seem particularly excited at the prospect of being able to pair the tablet to BlackBerry phones. Perhaps sir would be interested in grabbing one on contract whilst you’re there?

The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy’s Graham Stapleton said,“The BlackBerry brand is already highly regarded amongst our customers who are looking for excellent smartphones, and I expect BlackBerry PlayBook to be just as popular.

“The product packs in some fantastic features within a handy travel-friendly size and I’m sure will be well-received. With its speed, HD-capabilities and impressive multitasking BlackBerry Playbook has the potential to impact the tablet market in a significant way.”

It’s similarly priced to the iPad- but which one would you pick? You can visit our hands-on gallery for more details on the PlayBook and some comparisons with our iPad. The PlayBook certainly isn’t aimed at the same people who would pick up an iPad. Expect our review later this week.
