BlackBerry PlayBook drops to £169 on Carphone Warehouse and PC World

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play might’ve taken a price tumble to £150 (again) on O2, but for roughly £20 more you could snap up a 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook from Carphone Warehouse or PC World.

The QNX-powered 7-inch tablet is currently going for peanuts from both retailers and, perhaps unsurprisingly, from Dixons and Currys as well.

£169 will net you a 16GB edition of the PlayBook, while you can get the 32GB and 64GB versions for £199 and £329 respectively.

Dixons looks to have sold out of the 32GB versions, while Currys is selling discounted PlayBooks with a range of extra accessories including a charging dock/stand and European travel adapters.

Despite not flying off the shelves at launch, we rated the BlackBerry PlayBook, which we felt held its own against similarly specced Android tablets of the day. It’s 7-inch screen has a high resolution of 1024 x 600 and it’s dual-core processor allows it to much through 1080p video and easily juggle Flash content through the web browser.

Those eager for a taste of BlackBerry phones to come might want to check out the PlayBook – BlackBerry 10 (formerly known as BBX) is based on QNX, the software which comes installed on the PlayBook.

The first BlackBerry 10 phones aren’t due to appear until later this year, so £170-odd will get you a great tablet plus a glimpse of how things might shape up on the BlackBerry phones of the future.
