Blackberry Playbook to come with 7digital music store

RIM has paired up with digital download provider 7digital to bring its music service to the soon to be released Blackberry PlayBook tablet.

The PlayBook will use 7digital’s API to power its music store. Included is clever recommendation technology that helps you find new music without needing search.

“RIM has created an incredible tablet with premium multimedia features and together we are delivering a truly exceptional music experience for mobile users, offering content that is extremely easy to discover, purchase and use.” said 7digital CEO Ben Drury

7digital has paired with Blackberry in the past, using RIM devices to launch its service in the US. They are however relatively new to the tablet market with only the Samsung Galaxy Tab taking advantage of the music download setup.

Current competition of on-device downloads comes mainly in the form of iTunes and the iPad. That said the early hands on with the PlayBook indicates that Blackberry have got a pretty serious device on their hands. Decent design coupled with a smooth and snappy OS could make for a great tablet. Better still is access to a music library like that of 7digital’s.

“We’re really excited to be working with RIM to bring the 7digital experience to the BlackBerry PlayBook,” said Drury.

The PlayBook is currently slated for a late Spring launch date.
