BSkyB Sky Sports News app arrives on iPad


 

BSkyB is to launch its first app for its Sky Sports News channel on iPad. The app will feature all your sporting delights across Football, Rugby Union, Cricket, Golf. Tennis, F1 and Boxing. Users can view the live Sky Sports News channel direct from their iPad, in addition to viewing catch-up highlights, photo galleries and listening-in to Sky Sports News Radio.

The app also features a neat customisable homepage, where fans can select up to four football teams to keep up to date with. In addition to live streaming of all Sky Sports News.

The app is free to download and if you are an existing Sky Sports customer you can enjoy all the features of this app free, just log-in with your Sky iD. Alternatively you can subscribe for £4.99 per month via iTunes. This is an automatic renewal, so if you don’t want it anymore make sure you cancel your subscription at least 24hrs before your next payment date.

BSkyB’s Director of Mobile, David Gibbs, announced the new app via a blog post and within it revealed figures from BSkyB’s research carried out by Mintel, investigating demand for TV apps on tablets and smartphones;

“8% of respondents in our research received a tablet over Christmas, which is on top of the 9% of the British population who already own one (according to Ofcom research released last year). Additionally, 16% intend to purchase a mobile tablet in the year ahead.”

With one in three respondents saying that watching films, TV content and videos is a key reason behind them purchasing a tablet, BSkyB is sure to on to a winner with this new app.
