CyanogenMod’s Installer aims to change the complicated process of trying a custom ROM

The team behind popular custom ROM CyanogenMod have released an app onto the Play Store designed to guide would-be installers through the setup process. You won’t be able to install the ROM with just the app, though.

The app works in tandem with a desktop client provided by the CyanogenMod team to try and make things as simple as possible for first time installers. Still, there are some limitations. the desktop client is currently only available for Windows – a Mac version is on the way – and only handles a limited selection of Android devices.

Google’s line of Nexus devices – save for the Nexus 5 – are all supported, as are select handsets from Samsung and HTC, such as the Galaxy S4 and One. If you’ve always wanted to try a custom ROM but were put off by the complicated install process, now might be a good time to dip your toe into the waters.
