Datawind UbiSlate 7Ci is the cheapest of tablets

The super-cheap UbiSlate 7Ci tablet is a perfect stocking filler. In fact, it’s almost cheaper than the socks you might put it in.

Tablets are set to be huge sellers this holiday period, and for good reason; not only is there a vast amount of choice, many of those examples are available for next to nothing. Take the UbiSlate 7Ci for example — this dinky touchscreen computer has just gone on sale in the UK, in time for Christmas, for a paltry £30 (or £40 when you factor in delivery charges).

The 7-inch UbiSlate 7Ci is one of the cheapest tablets we’ve ever seen, eclipsing the Tesco Hudl, the Google Nexus 7 and just about everything else that hasn’t fallen out of a Christmas cracker.

Understandably, its specs aren’t up to much. The 7-inch panel has a low 800×480-pixel resolution, it runs a Cortex A8 1GHz processor and has access to just 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage, though the latter is upgradeable via a microSD card. It also has a front-faving VGA camera for taking selfies or checking your make-up.

Under its proverbial hood, the UbiSlate 7Ci runs Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, though apps from the Google Play store are out of the question. Instead, you’ll need to source apps from GetJar, an independent app store with around 350,000 apps available.

The UbiSlate 7Ci was originally designed for use in schools in developing areas of India, where it’s known as the Aakash. Think of the poor indian kids you’re depriving of their education while you ponder a purchase from British company Datawind’s Web site.
