Delicious Vinyl app lets you remix classic hip-hop cuts

We don’t need to do a huge amount of blathering to persuade you to download iPhone app Delicious Vinyl Romplr: Remix. One: it’s free. Two: it lets you mess about with Tone Loc’s Funky Cold Medina. Job done.

The app has been released by developer Skyrockit, and uses its Romplr remix tech to let you tweak a range of classic hip-hop tracks from Loc, and labelmates Young MC, The Pharcyde, Fatlip, Bobby Evans and, er, the Brand New Heavies.

The app itself is free to download, including Bobby Evans’ Freak-A-Zoid Robotz song – or ‘mixkit’ as Skyrockit describes it. You’ll have to pay 59p a pop for other tracks, including Funky Cold Medina, Wild Thing, Runnin’, What’s Up Fatlip and Never Stop.

The remixing part involves turning different instruments and elements on and off, while also triggering FX samples. It’s good fun, and connected options let you record your mix, then share it to Facebook or via email. And if this isn’t enough Delicious Vinyl goodness for you, the label has also released its own iPhone game called Delicious Vinyl DJ, featuring several other tracks.
