Dropbox for Android is one of our favourite way of slinging pictures and videos to each other. So naturally we’re very pleased to learn that the app has recently updated to allow for auto-syncing of pictures as you snap them. Take that iCloud and SkyDrive.
Once you’ve updated the app on your Android phone or tablet, you’ll be prompted to turn on the new Camera Upload setting. You’re given the choice of whether or not you want the auto-sync to kick in when you’re connected to 3G and Wi-Fi, or, if you’re data-conscious, there’s a Wi-Fi-only option.
You don’t have to enable this right away, but should you want to turn it back on, all you need to do is tap menu > Settings > Turn on Camera Upload.
A trade off for this awesome ability is that the Dropbox app can no longer be stored on your Android phone’s SD card, apparently due to “due to more secure credential storage.”
Either way, being able to sling our pictures into 3GB of cloud space will go some way to making up for that. And this is before you ever consider hijacking your Gmail account and exploiting the 9GB that’s available to you.
As always with Dropbox, you’ve got the option to fork out for some extra room should you fill this up. $9.99 (£6.35) a month gets you a bigger 50GB and $19.99 (£12.70) a month gets you an even roomier 100GB.
