EE is launching high-speed 4G services in Cumbria, bringing superfast broadband to over 2000 residents in one of the UK’s remotest regions.
Comprising of an area 100 miles squares, the Northern Fells is home to the UK’s highest concentration of home workers, who don’t currently benefit from any fibre or superfast technology.
Following trials of 4G in May 2012 in the area involving 50 local residents. Consumers and business will now benefit from 4G speeds of 8-12Mbps, covering 84 per cent of the population by summer 2013.
Rory Stewart, MP for Penrith and Borders, comments: “Superfast broadband is making a massive difference to the way that people live their lives and do business. The 4G trial that started last year has already made a substantial difference to people in the Northern Fells community, and it is a hugely positive step to see this being moved to a full launch over the coming months.”
Mobile Broadband plans will start at £15.99 a month, EE is inviting Cumbrian residents to register interest at Northern Fells Broadband.
In 2011 EE launched the UK’s first superfast 4G network, which is currently available in 37 towns and cities around the UK. 98 per cent of the population will be covered by the end of 2013. Find out more about 4G here.
