Fitbit Blaze unboxing: A first look at the first Fitbit smartwatch

We unbox the Fitbit Blaze smartwatch, the first full-on watch from the San Francisco tech firm, and check out some of the alternative straps you can buy, including a fetching metal number.

The Fitbit Blaze is a fitness watch that does a little bit of everything. As well as the standard step tracking, pulse reading and GPS workout shenanigans, plus the almost obligatory sleep monitoring, you also get a bunch of typical smartwatch features. That includes on-the-wrist notifications, calendar alerts and media control.

Of course, it’s the fitness features that sit at the beating heart of the Blaze, with highlights including the FitStar coaching feature that steers you through a variety of different workout types. You can challenge your mates, to see who can reach a pre-determined target first, or simply set your own solo goals as an extra incentive to keep fit.

With up to five days of continuous use between charges, plus a selection of funky bands to choose from (including a chunky metal number that looks good on a night out), the Fitbit Blaze certainly offers a lot for your cash. Question is, does it try a little too hard, or is the Blaze a solid all-round package?
