Flash 10.1: Faster YouTube for all, except iPhone

Flash Player 10.1, saviour of the smart phone universe, has arrived. The new mobile version of Adobe Flash promises faster rendering of videos and places less of a demand on a mobile phone’s battery and memory. Flash Player 10.1 should see more mobile customers able to access Flash content – YouTube and Newgrounds videos etc – on the go at faster speeds than before.

All of the major mobile platforms are catered for including Symbian, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Android and webOS. All but one. Yep, if you’ve got an iPhone or were thinking about getting one on Orange or Vodafone next year, then it doesn’t look likely that you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of Flash Player 10.1. Obviously this isn’t the end of the world if you just want to watch YouTube videos, as there’s an app for that, but perhaps at not the same rates afforded by the new version of Flash Player.

We can only hope that Adobe and Apple can work something out, or Apple updates its YouTube app to include at least some of the benefits of Flash Player 10.1.
