Revamped Flickr brings 1TB of photo storage along with new Android app

Yahoo! announced a massive overhaul for photo sharing service Flickr last night as you were tucked up in bed. The search company has completely changed the user interface of the Flickr website, as well as the storage and bandwidth limits for free accounts. There’s no such thing as unlimited anymore, as Flickr now grants 1TB of photo storage to everyone by default.

Flickr’s new strategy is to entice you with the prospect of an advertisement free site, charging $50 per year (around £33) for the option. And if you find yourself somehow eating into that generous 1TB limit, you can double the storage to 2TB for $500 (around £328) a year.

Better yet, there’s a brand new Android app to go along with the design of the new website. Just like the site, the Android app cuts down on wasted white space, instead maximizing real estate using as many photos as possible. You’ll naturally have access to full size and full resolution images, but you’ll also be able to play around with the included filters, or crop and retouch your photos as you see fit.

In addition, Flickr is also opening up its video support. You can now upload 1080p video up to three minutes in length to the service, but if you need space for anything longer than you’ll probably want to stick to YouTube or Vimeo. The new design and Android app are available right this very minute, so make sure to check both of them out.
