Foursquare gets live video thanks to Bambuser

So, your mate’s just checked in at a club, but should you be heading over there too? Live video footage might be just the thing to help you decide. Thanks to a new feature in livestreaming iPhone app Bambuser, it’s now possible.

The app – which is a rival to Ustream and Qik – lets people stream live video from their iPhones to their channel on the Bambuser website. Now they can also link their Bambuser account to their Foursquare profile.

“Next time you fire up a live broadcast from the Bambuser mobile app, you will have the option to share the broadcast on Foursquare and check in on the venue your at at the same time,” explains a post on the Bambuser blog. The link can also be automatically posted on Facebook or Twitter.

It sounds like a bit of a niche feature. It’s annoying enough having your tweetstream clogged up with people’s Foursquare check-ins, let alone links to live video of them actually sipping their cocktail.

However, it’s a sign of the potential to blend location and live video, associating the latter with actual places rather than simple co-ordinates. Imagine being able to watch a bunch of videos shot by punters at a specific club or restaurant before deciding whether to go there.

Bambuser’s Foursquare integration is an early sign of this potential, but we think other apps will build on the idea.
