Sadly, we weren’t able to actually play around with the Fujistu Stylistic M532 tablet at Mobile World Congress; though it’s shipping with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Fujitsu’s Markus Seifart said that it’s not yet ready as the remote access software – that’ll let you patch in to your desktop from the tablet (a la Citrix et Slashtop et al) wasn’t quite ready.
Quick refresher: Native support for Citrix, VMware and Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is being built in to the Fujitsu Stylistic M532. It’s being aimed squarely at corporate buyers who want to be able to work remotely as well as play games from the Android Market and watch movies when work hours are over.
We understand that as with the unnamed quad-core Android phone, Fujitsu’s UI customisations are going to be very light (think the Asus Transformer Prime) so it shouldn’t differ too much from the Android 4.0 Holo experience, and will allow for faster rollouts of updates. When we asked Seifart about Android 5.0 Jellybean we got a straight-up ‘no comment’ – make of that what you will.
What we were able to get a look at was everything on the outside. In terms of connections there’s a standard-sized SIM card slot, microSD slot and a micro USB for charging and data. There’s support for DLNA too, so you can stream presentations (or movies) to compatible TVs and projectors.
The 3.5mm headphone jack gives you an idea of the Fujitsu Stylistic M532’s thickness. The Fujitsu Stylistic M532 weighs 560 grams and feels light, portable but with a bit of heft about it that we like. It’s not the lightest we’ve wielded at Mobile World Congress, but we certainly can’t see this being tough to lug around in your bag. There’s an 8-megapixel camera round on the back which regrettably we couldn’t have a play around with.
Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-and-a-bit-core processor runs the show from beneath the big 10.1-inch Gorilla Glass display.
No pricing available just yet, nor is there a general ETA. We’re expecting to hear more later in the year, presumably around August when Fujitsu’s big Android phone debut is supposed to be landing in the UK.
