Fusion Garage Grid 4 Android-based mobile phone announced alongside Grid 10 tablet

Alongside the mystery tablet there was something else, Fusion Garage’s Grid 4 smartphone.

Running on the same Android-based Grid OS of the Grid 10, one of the neat features of Grid 4 was that a movie you can start watching on the tablet can be picked up at and watched at the same point on the phone and vice versa. Kind of like Kindle Whispersync and Google Movies combined.

The Grid 4, unsurprisingly, has a 4-inch screen (4 points capactive) with a display resolution of 800 x 480.

You also get a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip (MSM8255), 512MB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There’s a 5-megapixel camera that can record 720p HD video, has an LED flash and there’s a 0.3-megapixeler on the front for video calls.

Like the Grid 10 it features a micro SIM slot, meaning that moving over to this after your iPhone 4 contract expires shouldn’t be a problem.

Speaking of contracts and availability, the price given for the Grid 4 was $399 (around £250) unlocked and SIM free.

We have to admire Fusion Garage’s chutzpah here with its longwinded and frankly baffling marketing campaign. And some bold claims were made, “no innovation since the iPhone” being as bold as it gets.

But the proof as they say will be in the pudding. We’re curious at the moment, but can’t say we’re reaching for our wallets and pencilling the 15th of September in our Google Calendars. We look forwards to seeing how the Fusion Garage story develops and whether the spectre of the truly lamentable JooJoo tablet can be banished forever.
