Google has announced that Android users will be able to voice search on their smartphones by relationship, using commands like “call mum” or “text brother”.
Google has announced a new ‘relationships’ option which it’s adding to voice search on Android, allowing users the ability to contact their loved ones with a simple “call mum” or “text brother” voice command.
To enable this feature, users must allow the Google Search app access to their phone’s address book and in turn, the information attached to each contact. Say you wanted to call your mother, Google’s voice search will filter the contact with the relationship titled “Mum”.
Presently, this new feature doesn’t include extended family relatives. It only currently covers: mom/mum, mother, dad, father, sister, brother, girlfriend, boyfriend, cousin, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandma, grandfather, and grandpa. In-laws are not yet featured (although this may be a blessing to some!).
Users do not have to update a current version of the app, as it has been enabled on the backend by Google.
